I traveled to Christchurch yesterday to attend the Master Builders' Constructive Industry Forum conference where Bill English spoke about the need for the industry to become more efficient and coordinated to help cater for the house building boom needed over the next decade.

But it was the comments by brand new Housing NZ CEO Andrew McKenzie (he started on Tuesday) and Mike Greer of Mike Greer Homes that stole the show. Both talked up the need for massive new Government-funded and sponsored house building programmes in Auckland to address its affordability crisis.

Housing NZ eyeing NZ$2 bln to rebuild 5,000 homes over 3 years

Speaking after his minister addressed the conference, McKenzie said Housing New Zealand was working on a new asset management plan that would be sorted out in the next month.
