Learning From the Past to Emerge Stronger
28 July 2022
Falling confidence in the economy off the back of surging inflation and sharply rising interest rates are heralding an end to the long building and construction boom.
But our sector has been here before. For the past five decades, our industry has faced a succession of boom-bust cycles. After each cycle we somehow expect it to be different, but the cycle continues because, as a country, we haven’t learnt from our past mistakes.
While learning from the past should seem straightforward, lessons have proved elusive to achieve. This time we are determined to avoid a repeat. Our annual State of the Sector Survey tells us views from over 1,200 builders and homeowners who understand the issues from the coalface. At Constructive 2022 we examine the strategies to minimise the downturn’s impact on the sector, its workforce, and for New Zealanders wanting to build.
Constructive also brings together Government and sector leaders to recommend the best actions and approaches. This is your opportunity to be part of the solution.
