RESTRUCTURING NEW ZEALAND. TACKLING THE ISSUES FACING COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION

Registrations are now open for Constructive 2021. This is your opportunity to be part of the conversation as we tackle the big issues facing commercial and residential construction.

This year Constructive is being held over two days with the first day centred on continuing our focus on commercial construction, and day two turning to New Zealand's housing crisis. Our sector continues to face a number of complex issues for which there are no easy answers. Constructive brings together leaders from across the private and public sectors to find practical solutions. It is a chance for you to have your say on the future of our industry and country.

We are excited to announce that Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson will be speaking at Constructive 2021.  As Minister of Finance and Infrastructure, he will share his view on how New Zealand can address its critical infrastructure deficit. He will also provide an update on the newly established Implementation Unit, which we see as a vital part of the delivery puzzle. You will also have the opportunity to also ask your questions.

Constructive is where the sector comes together to find solutions. And we have made progress,  the Construction Sector Accord is a good case in point. First discussed at Constructive 2018, the Accord has provided a platform for Government and industry to work together. As a result we are seeing progress in areas such as procurement, fairness in contracts, value models and business performance. We need to keep up this momentum.

A Continued Focus on Commercial Construction

We're looking forward to presenting our annual state of the sector survey, which shows what we have achieved over the past few years, while raising new issues and opportunities. We look at what is keeping our leaders awake at night– and what they're doing about it.

We'll also hear more from the Construction Sector Accord – understanding what has been achieved to date, and more importantly, what's next. Unfair procurement models have been discussed at each Constructive since we began in 2016, and we are now seeing improvements. We look forward to sharing new and positive examples from across Government and the private sector.

In the afternoon we move onto global issues facing the sector. One of these climate change. We already know what the problems are and what is at stake, but Constructive will discuss what needs to be done and share examples of best practice.

Transforming Our Approach to Housing

On day two we will turn towards housing. We ask how can our sector consistently deliver affordable, quality housing for New Zealand? Our problems are not unique, similar issues are being felt in many western societies. We ask is there anything we can learn from others, and how can we transform our approach to housing and social housing in order to improve delivery for all New Zealanders.

We will also celebrate the great initiatives that are already happening. We bring public and private sector leaders together to talk about the new solutions being delivered. A key part of these projects is partnerships between developers, Government, communities, and Iwi.

Together, as a sector, we are facing major regulatory reform. We look at what you need to know and what these changes will practically mean for what and how we build. Consenting is the biggest pain point for many. Constructive will address what we can do differently today, and the reforms we need to solve this for tomorrow.

Constructive 2021 is your opportunity to play your part.  We are looking forward to seeing you there.
